How to Clean a Moldy Roof

Moss growing on your roof is a big problem. It severely shortens the expected lifespan of your roof. This is because moss holds moisture and keeps the shingles damp. This causes the sheeting underneath to rot. If your roof is already covered in moss, consider calling a roof cleaning company. In this video, you will learn how a roof is cleaned of moss.

Before the cleaning process begins, a harness should be worn and attached to a rafter. This will keep you from falling off the roof and breaking your back. Next, you will want to take a broom and sweep off the roof to remove as much moss as possible. It is alright if you can’t get all of it.

You should also install a zinc strip at the top ridge of the roof. When rain water hits the strip, the zinc particulates are carried by the rain down the roof. This will kill off any moss or mold that is growing on the roof in the future. Finally, spray down the rest of the roof with a mixture of bleach and water to clean off the rest of the moss.
